New Fire Station 15 Construction Celebrated with Brick Laying Ceremony
City of Phoenix leadership joined the Phoenix Fire Department, members of Local 493 and construction partners on Thursday, October 30th for a unique brick-laying ceremony to celebrate the progress in construction of the new Fire Station 15.
Located at 45th Avenue just south of Camelback Road, the new station marks the third generation of Fire Station 15, which has served the west Phoenix community for nearly 70 years.
The project is the first of four G.O. bond funded fire stations approved by voters in November of 2023 reflecting the community’s continued investment in public safety.
As one of Phoenix’s busiest fire stations, Station 15 will expand its service capacity with the addition of a second all-hazards fire engine and a second ambulance both staffed with paramedics trained in advanced lifesaving care.
The goal of this expansion is to improve response times and keep resources in the neighborhood.
Fire Chief Mike Duran emphasized that the station’s design reflects the department’s priority on firefighter health as cancer is now the leading cause of death among firefighters.
The new facility will feature a number of innovations focused on firefighter safety, wellness, and sustainability. It will incorporate dedicated hot, warm, and cold zones to reduce exposure to contaminants, natural and red-spectrum lighting to support recovery, and a state-of-the-art gym to promote fitness and injury prevention.
The current Station 15, built in 1979, will be repurposed to house the Community Assistance Program, which provides support for residents experiencing behavioral and mental health crises.
The new Fire Station 15 is expected to be operational in 2026.
