The City of Phoenix Adaptive Recreation Program offers safe, inclusive, and accessible recreational opportunities for all abilities; empowering individuals to lead meaningful lives and create a welcoming environment of acceptance and belonging. Through a wide variety of programs and events, we seek to educate, enrich, and empower those with intellectual and physical disabilities to lead healthy and active lifestyles!
Adaptive Summer Camp at South Mountain Community Center
Join us for an unforgettable summer of fun, friendship, and adventure! Our Adaptive Recreation Summer Camp is specially designed for youth ages 8–16 with special needs, providing a supportive and inclusive environment where every camper can thrive.

Join the City of Phoenix Special Olympics bowling team! Participants will learn bowling techniques alongside their peers. *A current Special Olympics physical is required to participate.*

Join our City of Phoenix Special Olympics cheerleading team!Practice will be held on Wednesday's at Sunnyslope Community Center from 5:30-6:30PM and will teach all participants dance moves and cheers alongside their peers. A current Special Olympics physical is required to participate.

Telephone Pioneers Park
The Parks and Recreation Department manages Telephone Pioneers of America Park, the first barrier free park in the nation. This facility was built through community donations under the leadership of the volunteer organization, Telephone Pioneers of America.
The park features two beep baseball fields, a therapeutic heated pool, a wheelchair-accessible playground, an 18-station exercise course, racquetball, volleyball, tennis, basketball and shuffleboard. Ramadas, grills and picnic facilities also are available. A state of the art "all children" accessible playground was completed in January 2001.
