National Volunteer Month at S'edav Va'aki Museum
As National Volunteer Month comes to a close, S’edav Va’aki Museum wants to take a moment to highlight the ways our incredible team of volunteers has supported SVM through their dedication and talents, which impact the greater community around the Museum. Throughout 2025 and into early 2026, our volunteers have played a critical role in SVM’s numerous successes and endeavors.
We hosted various events, from Ancient Technology Day, International Archaeology Day, International Museum Day, Portal Fest, the annual Indian Market, and the inaugural Harmony Gala. In October, the Museum reopened with new exhibit spaces and three new exhibits. The museum’s Volunteer Program Specialist even revived the Volunteer Monthly lunches and provided more opportunities for volunteers to gain supplemental knowledge and training. SVM volunteers. This added layer of preparedness and passion allowed SVM to facilitate numerous school field trips and many outreach events.
Thanks to the passion and skills of the Museum’s established volunteer community, SVM’s Volunteer Program Specialist and AmeriCorps VISTA further developed and continued the Teen Volunteer Program into two more semesters. From mastering real microscopes and leading the Parched exhibit activity to uncover tiny worlds in water samples, to guiding guests through Detective Archaeology and handling authentic artifacts, these teens brought science and history to life. Teen volunteers even had the chance to meet the City Archaeologist for an insider’s look at the profession!
Together, SVM volunteers logged over 7,000 hours in 2025, 2000 more than in 2024, and the museum was closed for four months for renovations!
