Phoenix Celebrates Native American Heritage Month

The City of Phoenix is proud to celebrate Native American Heritage Month by spotlighting the people, places, and partnerships that honor Indigenous heritage and strengthen our community.

This year’s features highlight stories of connection, cultural preservation, and collaboration across the City.

From the City Archaeologist and S’edav Va’aki Museum—working together with Tribal Historic Preservation Offices to protect and interpret one of Phoenix’s most significant ancestral sites—to the Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve, where ancient carvings tell stories that still inspire wonder today, these pieces show how history and stewardship go hand in hand.

We also feature the Native American Network, a City of Phoenix employee resource group that builds connection and cultural awareness among staff, and the artistry of the World Championship Hoop Dance Contest, where dancers transform tradition into movement and story each year at the Heard Museum.

Together, these stories showcase how Native American heritage continues to shape Phoenix—its people, its landscape, and its shared future.
