City of Phoenix Launches SNAP Navigation Support
The City of Phoenix Human Services Department (HSD) launched a new initiative to help residents successfully participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The program offers guidance on applications, renewals, and work requirements. The goal is to reduce benefit loss and ensure residents can confidently submit complete information to the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES). Information on the navigation program can be found at phoenix.gov/SNAPNAV
Although the City of Phoenix does not determine eligibility, approve or renew benefits, or administer SNAP, staff are available to help residents understand what DES requires and prepare submissions.
How the City Can Help
Residents can receive:
• One‑on‑one help understanding, completing, and submitting SNAP applications and renewals
• Assistance meeting work requirements
• Post-application support
“Navigating the SNAP application process can be complicated, and this program ensures Phoenix families have the support they need,” Mayor Kate Gallego said. “Far too many people are losing their nutritional safety net because of federal changes, paperwork errors, and red tape. This initiative is a critical lifeline to keep children from going hungry, and families and seniors who are struggling with the high cost of food."
Appointment Scheduling & Walk‑In Options
Residents can schedule an appointment online at phoenix.gov/SnapNav. Walk‑ins are also welcome during normal business hours at the City of Phoenix Family Services Centers. The City will also host ongoing community clinics including at Wednesday October 28th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at Emmett McLoughlin C.T.E.C. Check our website for more future dates.
What Residents Should Bring
To help staff prepare an application or renewal packet, residents are encouraged to bring any available documents, including identity verification, proof of address, income information for all household members, Social Security numbers, bank statements, documentation related to volunteer hours or federal workforce program participation, and any DES notices related to renewals or updates.
“Our goal is to make the SNAP process easier, clearer, and less stressful,” said Human Services Director Jacqueline Edwards. “We want residents to feel confident and prepared every step of the way.”
