Instrumentation Controls Specialist Apprentice
Overview
Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Specialist Apprentices learn to install, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair industrial process control equipment. They gain experience on a wide variety of electronic instrumentation applications in wastewater and water treatment operations.
Apprentices must successfully and satisfactorily complete all assigned classroom and equipment training, 6,000 on-the-job training (OJT) hours, and a minimum of 432 related training instruction hours. During this period of the program, apprentices will be non-classified and paid as an I&C Specialist apprentice. After successful completion of all requirements, apprentices will be promoted into the I&C Specialist classification and complete a 12-month probationary period.

Salary
- $27.49 / hour starting wage
- $28.86 / hour after 1,000 OJT hours
- $30.31 / hour after 2,000 OJT hours
- $31.82 / hour after 3,000 OJT hours
- $33.41 / hour after 4,000 OJT hours
- $35.08 / hour after 5,000 OJT hours
- $36.84 / hour after 6,000 OJT hours
- Starting Pay Upon Graduation $76,627
On-the-Job Training Includes
- Successfully completing all required I&C Specialist Apprenticeship Training Courses
- Graduating the I&C Specialist Apprenticeship Program
- Earning a State of Arizona Completion Certificate
- Earning a Department of Labor Completion Certificate
- Promoting to I&C Specialist
Meet Our Apprentices
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED at the time of hire.
- Must successfully pass an Apprentice Aptitude Test with an 80% score or better.
- Ability to:
- Read and comprehend written material at a level appropriate for the class.
- Perceive the full range of the color spectrum.
- Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).
- Work at heights greater than 10 feet.
- Work outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
- Work irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
