Phoenix Public Library, in partnership with the Phoenix VA Health Care System, has launched monthly Bookmobile visits to the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center, expanding access to library services for Veterans, their families and caregivers.

The initiative officially launched July 1, welcoming Phoenix VA patrons and staff aboard the library’s fully equipped Bookmobile. The mobile unit features a rotating collection of approximately 2,500 items available for checkout, including popular fiction and nonfiction titles, gardening seeds, and Culture Passes for entry to attractions throughout Arizona.

Designed with accessibility and comfort in mind, the Bookmobile includes:

  • A dedicated children’s area with a reading bench
  • Wi-Fi access
  • ADA-compliant wheelchair lift
  • Full air conditioning and indoor seating
  • Interior and exterior display monitors

“The goal is to make library services more accessible for everyone in the community,” said Keith Lord, Bookmobile branch manager. “This partnership gives Veterans the opportunity to sign up for library cards, explore available programs, and check out materials—right where they are.”

During the launch event, several new library cards were issued, and more than 30 items were checked out by attendees.

The Bookmobile makes regular stops at parks, schools and community hubs across the Valley. The Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center is now included as one of its scheduled monthly locations.

Recurring on the first Tuesday of the month, subject to change.
