Phoenix launches a Citywide food drive to assist residents experiencing food insecurity during the holidays.
Paradise Village Parkway from Cactus Road to Tatum Boulevard
A future paving project along the south and east sections of Paradise Village Parkway provides an opportunity for the Phoenix Street Transportation Department to review restriping options that would better accommodate the needs of all roadway users.
This proposal could remove one travel lane in each direction to add buffered bike lanes. Bike lanes add space between people driving and people walking or biking for increased protection from vehicles, improved safety and added comfort. Additionally, removing one driving lane in each direction to accommodate the buffered bike lanes will help to deter speeding by preventing speeding cars from passing.
Pavement maintenance (new asphalt) is scheduled for 2025, and restriping would happen shortly after paving was completed.
Road Design Options
The department is proposing the following for this corridor:
Option A: No change. One driving lane in each direction, with no bicycle lanes and a two-way center turning lane from Cactus Road to Tatum Boulevard. From Tatum Boulevard to Tatum Boulevard (eastern portion of loop) there are two driving lanes with no center turning lane.
Option B: One driving lane in each direction, with a buffered bike lane on both sides of the roadway and a center turning lane throughout. Some on-street parking in front of a hotel and multifamily housing on the southwest section would be removed.
Community Engagement
A virtual public meeting to discuss this project and the proposed changes was held on Tuesday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m. A recording of the meeting is posted below.
