Phoenix Water Launches Summer Water Conservation Workshops for Teachers

The City of Phoenix Water Services Department is launching Water Smart Teaching workshops in June 2025 to help high school teachers learn about water conservation through a fun and interactive program that can be used as part of their teaching curriculum.

Each session will cover a new topic, and teachers will get easy-to-use lessons and activities to take back to their classrooms to educate students about how to save water and protect our environment.

"Through these workshops, we are helping educators find creative ways to teach students about water conservation, and shaping a more sustainable future for Phoenix," said Ginny Svec, Water Resource Specialist. "Ensuring that youth have the tools they need to understand the importance of protecting our water resources is vital for future generations."

All four workshops are hybrid and will be held at Burton Barr Library from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for in-person attendees and online for virtual attendees. Qualifying participants must be high school educators in a City of Phoenix school district. They are not required to attend all four sessions.

Session 1 | Tuesday, June 3, 2025

Phoenix Water and Water in the West

  • Discover the history of water in the West and tackle a real-world challenge in a decision-making simulation.

Session 2 | Thursday, June 5, 2025

Water Conservation in Phoenix

  • Explore Phoenix’s water-saving strategies and try a resource management activity.

Session 3 | Tuesday, June 10, 2025

What You Can Do!

  • Calculate water footprints and create fun conservation plans for students.

Session 4 | Thursday, June 12, 2025

Teachers can earn two CEU (Continuing Education Unit) hours per session for a total of eight CEUs if attending all four sessions. Teachers who attend at least three out of four sessions will earn a certificate and be entered in a drawing to win a water treatment plant tour for their classroom(s), including a Q&A session with Water Services staff before the tour.
