Phoenix to Host Drive-Up Battery Collection Event

The Phoenix Public Works Department is offering a free opportunity to safely dispose of all those dead batteries you’ve been hanging onto! Join us at Desert West Sports Complex on Thursday, October 9 from 2-6 p.m. It’s a drive-up collection event, so you don’t even have to get out of your car. Representatives from Phoenix Public Works and the Phoenix Fire Department will be on hand to receive your lithium-ion, alkaline, and button batteries.

We cannot accept car, e-scooter, e-bike, or any lead-acid batteries.

Transport Your Lithium-Ion Batteries Safely

Keep Batteries Intact

Do not crush, puncture, or damage batteries. Damaged batteries are more likely to fail.

Tape the Terminals

Cover the metal terminals with non-conductive tape (electrical tape works great) to prevent short circuits.

Bag It

Place each battery or battery pack in a separate, clear, sealable plastic bag. Keep loose batteries separated.

Contain It

Put bagged batteries in a sturdy box or container that won't shift around in your vehicle

Transport Safely

Keep the container upright and in a cool, well-ventilated area of your vehicle. Never leave batteries in direct sunlight or in a hot car.
