Give with Purpose This Holiday Season

This holiday season, take action that truly changes lives. The City of Phoenix invites residents to embrace Healthy Giving: a smarter, more impactful way to help people and families experiencing homelessness.

Why Healthy Giving Matters

Healthy Giving directs your generosity toward trusted organizations that provide long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes, like cash. While giving money or items directly to people on the street may feel helpful, it can sometimes have unintended consequences for both the person and the surrounding community. By supporting established groups that are already doing the work, you’re helping people get off the street and connecting them with the services they need, like housing, job training and mental health support, to move forward.

"In Phoenix, we believe in solutions that uplift and empower," Mayor Gallego said. "Healthy Giving is more than a campaign, it’s a call to action for compassionate, community-driven change. By supporting organizations that provide real pathways out of homelessness, we’re investing in a stronger, more connected city for everyone."

“We all want to help, but the way we give can make a bigger difference than we realize,” said Rachel Milne, Director of the City’s Office of Homeless Solutions. “Healthy Giving is about making sure our kindness leads to real change. When we support organizations that offer people opportunity, dignity, and the tools to rebuild, we’re helping someone take a step toward ending their homelessness.”

How You Can Help:

  • Donate items or money to trusted nonprofits that serve our community.
  • Give the most-needed items such as:
    • Canned and nonperishable food (especially proteins and peanut butter)
    • Bottled water
    • Hygiene products and toiletries
    • New shoes, socks and underwear
  • Volunteer your time with local shelters, food banks or service providers
  • Spread the word about Healthy Giving to friends, family, and neighbors

If you see encampments, unattended belongings or you regularly see the same people in the same area experiencing homelessness and in need of services, contact PHX C.A.R.E.S through myphx311. You can also report concerns by calling 602-262-6251  Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
