After a highly competitive recruitment process that included multiple rounds of interviews, extensive engagement with community and labor groups, public feedback, and a citywide forum, the City of Phoenix has named Matt Giordano as the next Chief of Police. Phoenix Vice Mayor Ann O’Brien released the following statement:
“I am excited to welcome Chief Giordano back to Phoenix! Chief Giordano began his law enforcement career with the Phoenix Police Department, rising through the ranks to become Commander. After leaving Phoenix, Chief Giordano served as Executive Chief of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and, most recently, as Executive Director of the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST). There was no better choice than someone who truly understands the issues Phoenix faces and the continuous improvements the Council is committed to. I look forward to working with Chief Giordano as he works towards making the meaningful changes instituted by the City Council, designed to keep our officers and community safe and strengthen trust."
