7th Avenue From Southern Avenue to Broadway Road

Image of project area showing the segment from Southern to Broadway

This is a pre-design and planning study to determine design alternatives for constructing a sidewalk on the west side of 7th Avenue from Southern Avenue to Broadway Road. Alternatives will consider the ultimate half-street improvement as well as potential interim solutions to provide a safer walking route.

Local constituents have been requesting the addition of a continuous sidewalk along the west side of 7th Avenue from Southern Avenue to Broadway Road. The study will provide the information and assessments necessary to plan for a future capital improvement project to improve the west side of the street to its full width.

The existing city-owned right-of-way is limited. The city would need to acquire right-of-way from parcels that don't currently have sidewalks. The study will consider the implications to generational property owners.

There are underground utilities such as water, sewer and dry utilities that will need to be assessed as part of the planning effort. Salt River Project (SRP) also has an irrigation ditch on the west side of 7th Avenue.

Study Highlights

The planning team will assess:

  • Number and general location of underground utilities
  • Right-of-way needs
  • Potential drainage improvements needed
  • Possible lighting improvments and general location
  • Sidewalk or walking path location options
